What the next 24 months of AI builds will order

New Blackwell Ultra fabrics run 200G per lane: 1.6T at the switch, 800G at the server, and single-mode fiber with angled connectors in between.

Switch optics

1.6T OSFP twin-port 2xDR4, 500 m

Two 800G engines in one module for Quantum-X800 leaf and spine ports. Each one feeds two server NICs.

Server optics

800G OSFP DR4, flat-top, 500 m

Single-port modules sized for ConnectX-8 cages in B300 and GB300 systems. Finned-top modules won’t fit.

Fiber plant

OS2 single-mode, MPO-12/APC, Type-B

Female-to-female Type-B cords on every pinned optic, one straight cable per 800G port, and end-faces inspected and cleaned before every connect.

Before you place the order

  • Count NIC optics at two per twin-port switch optic, plus spares.
  • Run one straight Type-B cable from each port of a 1.6T switch optic to one 800G server optic. Quantum-X800 Q3400 switches don’t support fiber splitters.
  • Keep the plant APC end to end. NVIDIA’s 400G multimode optics are APC too, so standard UPC trunks won’t mate.
  • Keep 400G for Hopper expansions; new Blackwell Ultra servers ship with 800G NICs.
